Complete Renovation

Should I kill all the existing grass, a.k.a. weeds, with round up before starting? Followed by dethatching, aerating, topseeding, and fert.

LOL,

Depends on if you want to fight weeds when you are trying to grow grass...

Yes, I would suggest a complete kill with two to three apps of glyphosate to the entire area. It will help you in the long run. That is, if you are after a complete renovation, but if you are trying to improve the density of the exisitng lawn, then overseed and aerate and kill the weeds as needed, but not the grass.

I will agree with EG. If you don't kill the grass/weeds and just till them under then sow seed, the weeds will take over and you are back at square one. Definitely use the glyphosate/ roundup. I would also take a soil test and get the ph where it needs to be.

In early Feb. I was going to get a soil test to see where it needs to be. Then I'll kill the old grass and work it back to beautiful. LOL
