automatic

HI,
I have a Sears 18.5 hp lawn tractor with an automatic transmission. I am wondering if I have to come to a complete stop before shifting from forward to reverse and vice versa. It will let me just move lever back from forward to Reverse and vice versa without using the brake pedal or stopping but I am not sure if it is good for it. It seems obvious to not do either at high speeds but is it ok if going slow or any suggestions at all on this.
thanks

If it starts raining gears around here I will know where they came from.
