Holly pruning

Is it true that if you trim back hollys now they will die?
I cut back some today that were in need.
Anyway to get to the point , someone told my customer that they were going to die now, because of the pruning?!?

Nah...but if you cut back past the last green leaf it may take a long while for regrowth. Neal

The best time to prune anything is when you can do it properly. That is according to Dr. Ed Gilman at Florida State. He is one of the foremost experts on pruning.

Unless it was a basal prune, most likely they will be fine with no dieback.
