JD 14SB Cuts off - won't restart

Have a JD 14SB that will only start after significant time to cool off, then it starts to mis-fire and quits. After that, it gets no spark. Coil problems? Module? Both? Or am I completely off base? I know very little about the history of this mower, as it was "free." Is there a good site to purchase parts or is going to be it? Anybody know where to find an online owners manual?

be careful, picking parts and replacing them gets expensive on this engine.
to check the coil, remove the wire off the ignitor. place one lead of multimeter on block and other on the wire (off the ignitor) you should have .67 to 1.1 ohms
keep one lead on engine block and place other in spark plug cap, you should have 6000 to 10000 ohms

there is no test for the ignitor and late model engine have the ignitor built into the coil
