Distance to nearest repair shop?

This may get moved to another forum but I thank it will try it here. From what I am reading here in some places repair shops are few and few between. Here where I live they are 3 shops within 15 miles, 5 miles between 1&2 and 10 between 2&3. Now I am talking real shops here not some one who has a garage and some spare parts. So this is a poll, tell have far is it to the nearest repair shop and something about how far apart they are in your area. I will add up the results every Saturday until people stop replying or I get tired and close it down.

2 miles to my dealer from my shop. Best thing is if I am on a job and a machine goes down he will send someone to try and fix it in the field or drop me a loaner if they cannot.

repair shops

I am located in the NorthEast, where everything is on top of everything else. Just about each town has it's own repair shop, no lie. These are full service shops and dealers. So, every mile or two down the road, there is a repair shop, no matter which way you turn. Landscaping is a big business, what with all of the housing development that goes on here. NO parcels of land are safe from the eyes of the developers. They will stop at nothing to develop the land, residentially. The housing costs are real steep, the owner doesn't have the time, for he is too busy working to pay for it all, the landscaper is called for the maintenace, and any breakdowns are handled at the various shops, because the lco is too busy to try and stop to repair it himself. It's the never-ending circle.

The reason I started this little survey was I got the impression that in some parts of the country it was 20, 30 miles or even farther to the nearest shop. I got that impression from some of the thread and post here on Lawnsite. So did I get the wrong impression or is there some one out there that is that far way from a repair shop.

there is an idependant shop in my shop beside my house..
another more established idependant about 1/2 mile from me.
a very large been there forever independant about 2 mi. from me.
a JD/gravely/grasshopper/hustler dealer 5 mi. from me. (where i was working..)
a Case/New Holland, Cub dealer about 8 mi from me.
a large JD ag/l-g dealer about 10 mi from me..

and about 5 other dealers of various sorts within 15-25 mi of me..

our market would seem to be flooded.. but there are not enough mechanics in this area..
and i just got out of the business...
except for my little odd jobs at my home shop..

We have four top shops in this town, that is full service. one is five miles, one seven, one eight, one twelve. the first three are all familly, two brothers and a son. they get to gether and set prices, the fartherest is the cheaper and does not conform to price fixing. and of course there are twenty or so shade tree repair spots., but they have to get there parts from the large ones.. rather like a dog chasing his tail.
