My problem is i have a 1988 c-1500 4x4 its ran great since i bought it this summer now the reverse just doesn't engage. forward is fine i put it in 4x4 and it still doesn't engage. is it just froze from cold weather or just plain shot... please respond with any info.. nice truck but needs some help jarrett.

Auto or manual? Mileage? Noises? I'll assume auto and guess you have a problem. When mine went out, overdrive went first, then reverse, then forward.

auto

It's auto all forward gears work and 4x4. you put in gear and nothing happens. not a jerk grind nothing..

probably burned up the reverse clutches,they re in the back of the tranny,either way,its goot a come out and be rebuilt,or replaced.This one will be$$$It is the 700R4right,it has OD on the shifter selector.

you got it, od,so the truck cost me 1500.00 i think it served its purpose its not worth dropping $$$ into. thanks for the help this forum is like having a bunch of friends setting around the truck just talking about what ever you like. its great to have all of you out there thanks again
