You got off easy!
We get serious with non-pays. Our Enforcement Department has a squadron of trained wire-chewing chipmunks at the ready, and they won't leave any sixteenth of an inch of wire.

i would have replaced the solenoids...soldering wire under a deck...sounds time consuming to me...
