trying to build a lawn

How can i grow grass on an old corn field the dirt is as hard as a rock i tried i put down seed it washes away even with the ground thatched up! Is there a special seed i can put down that will grow in anything or a good fert. thanks Dave

here's what you do..

loosen soil
put down seed, fertilizer ie: 10-10-10, straw

and watch it go................

then, 6 wks later seed , fert 10-10-10

then, after labor day seed, fert 10-10-10

then, 6 wks later seed, fert 20-10-10
