31 Horse Kawasaki?

Well, I guess it is official. I'll be buying a new mower come spring to replace my 2007 Gravely 260, as I am selling it to my oldest daughter and her husband. Has 900 hours on it, and is in excellent shape, so should last them basically forever mowing their own lawn.

Anyway, a question. My 07 has a 25 Kaw, my 09 a 27 Kaw. Basically no problesm with either unit. My dealer orders most 260's in now with the 31 Kaw. I'm wondering how many of you have this engine and how many hours you've put on one so far? Any problems, issues? Noticeable power difference over a 27 or 25, etc? In other words, does this seem to be a good, dependable engine?

I know they run about $300 more than the 27. I don't mind paying the extra money, but would take a more dependable engine over the extra horses, if that should be the case. Thanks.

I do not know about longevity because my 08 Hustler a little less than 400 hrs. I do love the power this engine puts out though. I have heard it has more torque than the Briggs 35hp. It seems like alot of the MFG's are putting this engine on their larger units.

I have a 260 with the 31hp Kawasaki and a 252 with the 27hp Kawasaki. Both machines have around 300 hours and I would buy them again in a heartbeat if I had to get another.

With both machines, there's virtually nothing slowing them down. All I've done to both is oil and filter changes.

One of our customers has over 800 hours on his 31hp Super Z and have has no issues. Kawi builds a great engine.

I love the 26hp lc, but I admit, I have bumped the throttle up a bit on it to get my desired blade tip power. I bet with running higher rpms than normal on the engine that my LC will prolly not outlast my air-cooled mowers.
