Cant we all just get along?

For those of you who bother to read this, I was just looking over some posts on ztr mowers and find it interesting that anytime a member asks for advice on a product we start making it a pissing contest and argue with each other rather than answering the man/woman's question. Cant we all just get along and agree that most everyone on the commercial level of mowers makes a good product and just recommend what works for us? We should be telling the our fellow members what we like, tell them to demo everything and see what they like instead of arguing back and forth about who makes the best when the best simply doesnt exist. I'm not jumping everone's a## but some on this site have a low proffessional level. If some of you have the same attitude towards your customers you need to get out of the business. Lets all just get along and help each other. Isnt that what this site is for?????

I glean through all the trash/BS that folks spew to find the nuggets of wisdom that lie beneath.

My best advice is to really pay attention to folks' opinions from your region/state/area. Regional climate & grasses dictate a lot to form one's opinions...and local opinions will very often be different than those from 500-1000+ miles away.

I think mower brand must generally correlate with dik size. Why else would anyone not employed by a mower company care?

Good one.

Original poster--Very good points....it gets like that with many topics. I try my hardest not to get sucked into arguing with people but there are some people that come on here just to talk smack. I have to admit I've gotten caught up arguing with a few people on here.

This is very true. But on the ZTM question, everyone has a bias or favorite, however I keep trying to inform everyone, especially the noobs that as long as they are buying commercial, I think the most important thing is the dealer when it comes down to it. Most commercial mowers are high quality mowers, each has it own flaws, but with the correct dealer support it makes those flaws much less of a issue and the operator that much more profitable. I give up . However if we all stated this, the lawnsite threads would consist of approx. two posts. #1 - which is the best #2 commercial/dealer support answer.

So although the bickering back in forth does get old, it keeps the site very active.

I hope this is not true, well at least with the size of the mower, because I have a 36 inch Hustler Mini Z. Nothing ego boosting about saying you have a Mini

Because the question "What's the best of something?"

First off doesn't really have a right answer.
Someone else's favorite all-time best mower might be the worst thing you ever bought, for yourself.
Not to mention, questions like these really belong in the "Starting your business" section...

But it is also a question that strikes me a bit as folks who expect me (or us) to just hand them the keys to some valuable possession...
So I'm like yeah sure, how about sex with your wife, would that be all right too?
And it can come across as smart, very smart, these questions can be taken as an invasion from a personal stand point,
so one instinctive reaction is to get defensive, and say No!

So the correct answer is, DO some research...
But you already know as well as I do, if that answer is given, what comes back...

Here again...
Someone's ready to spend at least 500 but really more like a thousand dollars or more, much more...
And yet they're not willing to do the research?

These folks are just asking for trouble, anytime money is invested I would highly recommend doing some own research.
Nobody can, nobody is just going to give it to you.

To expand a bit, why that is so...

Is because it takes most folks a number of YEARS of headache and frustration,
or one could say a long time of learning and probably an experience few of us want to repeat.

And I realize most folks are none too keen to want to go through the experience themselves.
But one also realizes over the years, the experience, as painful as it can be, is unfortunately very necessary.
Why, because without this experience one fails to see the reason WHY.

And folks who are simply given the correct answer fail to gain that, and they
are back the very next day asking the SAME stupid question.
Case in point

But why would they ask that same question again?
Because they already forgot the answer, and that's because they never understood the reason behind it.

So, some of us do it different, you...
And anyone else is just going to have to bite the bullet and go through the same school most of the rest of us have done went through.
It's not for an unwillingness to help, but lets make it a one time school.

Glad to help, but it's one thing to tell someone to replace a spark plug on a failing engine when the question
is posted in the Mechanic & Repair section, it's quite another when that same person just barges into the first
section they can think of, wanting the same answer...
Can you see how that puts someone else on the defensive?

Anyhow...
In the end it boils down to having to do things a certain way.
