installing christmas lights as income?

Do any of you install christmas lights for income? Does it actually work? Is there a formula for pricing? Idid not intend for this to end up in the employment forum, but I don't know how to delete it or move it.

We don't do it for very many clients but we do some upon request. We don't make a ton of money on it either but we do get a little better than wages. We charge $35.00/man hour. My father is an electrician and has been working for me other the last year. We will be expanding our company in January (concrete/landscaping/electrica). Anyway when he has to do anything to gain us power we charge $55.00/hr. Seems as though when offered they love gaining power outside the house. It generally takes us about 4 hours to get the lights up with 2 or 3 guys. We only do the lights as a time and material job. I am sure there are a few guys that have a formula but run into the situation here that a lot of house's don't have gutters with their tile roofs. Home owner supplies the lights in most cases. We also don't light palms over 30 feet. Hope this helps some!

thanks, that does help. If I understand correctly, 2men x 4hrs x $35/hr = $280.00. So then you actually have luck getting clients to pay $200 - $300 to get the job done? sounds good.

wow your priceing is low. I charge $100 if were installing the customers lights. But normaly i charge $4 a ft for roof lines, and $15 a set on trees and shrubs.

we charge $55.00 an hour to put up, 2 guys and usually depending on the house we could walk away with $300 putting them up. Now if they want them down we charge $35 an hour to take down. My dads the number 5 electrician in ks so we can usually get someone out to hook up some outlets.

if a person charges $4/ft and you went all the way around the house that would be somewhere close to $700 per house. Really? I think I'm missing out.

We started it this year and we charge 2.25 per foot for roof line and $35/ hour for trees over 10 feet.
