I had a Lazer Z HP in MN and I loved that mower for everything except bagging--bagging with the 1st edition ultravac was a nightmare--oh so much blow out. Really delivered a consistent cut through a variety of conditions--soaking wet was not so fun, but I ve never used a competitors mower that would perform any better in the wet.

Exmark has been crazy about re-naming their lines recently, but the S series is probably the closest to the old HP's.

I will add about the decks--we have 3 S series 48" turf tracers and 1 X series 52". the S series has the ultracut 3 deck--good cut, poor bagging of leaves, rugged-ultracut 4 deck excellent cut, un-tested for bagging. But on a wet day give me the series 3--doesnt cut the grass quite as cleanly, but does not clump nearly as bad at the ultracut 4. By wet conditions I mean mowing in the falling rain.

To the gentleman from GA who complained of their cut quality--I can understand your sentiments. But in the north it is hard to beat the vacuum of Exmark for cut quality and frankly no mower is perfect. We went with Exmark because we wanted the finest walkbehinds money could buy and the turf tracer line with ECS and floating decks are far in front of the field.

I dont have any steep hills anywhere. I do have a couple of places that are about 2.5 acres and its taking me about an hour and 45 mins to just mow it with me residential troy bilt. Im just wanting somethign that is bigger cut, faster, good discharge.
look at these 2 links at what im seeing. They seem to be in good shape.

The HP is definately newer but has more hours, but it has the vertical shaft engine which i seem to like.. Either one would probably work well for you but if you're in no hurry as dry as it was this season there will probably be a ton of used z turns for sell over the winter.

Hard one to call. The regular z with kawi I believe has an ultra cut deck which is a better deck vs the hp with tri vantage deck.
