some places where I work have $500 community standard mailboxes. so not pulling trailers and being able to spin around in the cul-de-sac instead of backing in to mailboxes adds up quickly. don't ask how I know how much the mailboxes are :-(

I can't speak for the gas model that he has but the diesel models get amazing fuel mileage. Much better than running with a diesel dump bed pulling a trailer. If you can have everything on one unit + save money in fuel + you are insuring just the truck rather than truck & trailer then yes it is worth the extra money. A lot of NPR's are known to go 300k miles with proper maintenance.
