You do if it is wet and stuck to sidewalks. Not being a jerk but I tried a handheld one day last year and that was all I needed to go back to the backpack.

Don't mow in the rain. If you get caught out in a shower that is one thing, but going out in the rain is such a mess I stopped doing it. Green slime everywhere and grass wads to boot.

Isn't the morning dew right now making it impossible to mow till 9 am right now in Rochester? I've been mowing the low end/thin yards earlier but anything else is after 9 right now. I need a back pack every morning because of the dew, about till 10 am or a bit later.

I don't like handheld blowers...you can't trim and blow at the same time with them.

I bought it for cleanups but I've been using my Husky 580 blower for the mowing route...nice to be able to blow clippings from 30+ feet away. It's also great for blowing out from underneath the truck and trailer...just give it a good blast under there. The amount of time it sames with just that task is worth the purchase price. Now anything else seems like a toy.

To djagusch:

Yup it has been kind of crazy here now with the temps getting into low low 50's at night and some 40's. Definitely a stretch to start mowing at 7 or 8 am. But it makes for a just gorgeous rest of the day. Now if we could only get it to rain at least one day out of the week.

I agree. I do multiple homes clustered together in high end developments. There are huge areas of concrete from driveways, sidewalks to large patio areas. I would be there all day with a handheld blower.

As some of the posters said, the morning dew is slowly becoming an issue again. I love the dead of summer where you could mow early in the morning and it would be dry. Sadly, I see summer slipping away. I hate fall, but leaf clean up is a necessary evil to get me through the winter and in Florida for a couple weeks.

What I meant was I actually trim and blow at the same time on some accounts with long curb lines...blower on my back (tube spun around backwards while I'm trimming) and trimmer in my hands so I don't have to walk it all with 2 different pieces of equipment.

I neglected to lock up my Stihl backpack blower about a month ago...the tailgate popped open and I lost it. Discovered it about 10 minutes later, but it was too late. Never saw it again. While I was waiting and hoping, I bought a Redmax handheld but realized it just didn't have enough power. Dealer wouldn't take it back even though I just used it on a couple of driveways. Ended up buying a Husqvarna 500 series backpack because we have a new dealer in town and close by. So far it's been superb...easy starting and hurricane force. Anyone want to buy a Redmax handheld??
