Who has bid and worked on county or municipal maintenance contracts?

There were a couple that we bid on, one that we did not but did work up the numbers for it this spring, didnt get any of them.

I noticed though that one of the local municipalities that had listed everything inclusive in the contract... IE: Weeding, bed edging, mulching, edging weekly, mowing, ferts, pests etc... It appears the company that is doing the work... someone that literally outbid even the 2nd lowest bidder "Brickmans" by at least 30% cheaper, doesn't do anything more than weekly mowing, very little stick edging even, most curbs arnt edged "very obvious", little to no ferts, beds are mulched but not in great shape already, nothing looks edged on the beds either.

It almost looks like out of the multiple acre areas they mow around buildings, schools, parks etc. that they're using nothing bigger than maybe a 60" mower? One area looked more like a homeowner did circles with a 40-48" lawn tractor, another a 60" ztr and then some areas have 1' tall stragly weeds popping up like they don't trim nearly as often as they mow.

I'm assuming they don't mow it all in one or two days "which most of the other bidding contractors would have done", because one area looked like it was mowed within the same day, another 5-7 days ago and others longer..... With our bid being so much higher than some of the other bids and 3x the amount of the lowest bidder, its no wonder, if we bid lawn mowing only, skipped almost all the edging, no bed edging, no ferts and half or less of the trimming... surely we could have cut our bid down a lot to limit labor hours to mowing on the 72" mowers only :/ Even the littler LCOs in the area bitched at the one meeting about how low this one bid was. No one there heard of that company either.

Welcome to the new America,most if not all of the states are now runing deficeits so low baller in most cases gets the work unless you are in with the federal mafia where the bids are rigged in some cases or no bid contracts at all.

In my area alot of the work is being taken over by Mexican crews who work much cheaper. It is hard you just have to find a nich.

This is all being done on purpose by the way to get rid of the middle class here in the good ol US of A!

I love doing lawn work but it's charity for the most part so I only do it part time.

Some companies bid larger contracts just to get the bid. This is not very common in Florida.
Many Moons ago I was maintaining Fire Stations in Sarasots County and I could not wait for the contract to end. The person who was in charge of making sure everything was done according to the county requirements was brand new. I asked her where she went to school for her training and she named a local Art School here in town, no Kidding!. I more or
less knew the contract was going to be down the crapper hence forth. I also should mention she was responsible introducing new restrictions on the use of hand held power equipment, esp. power hedgers since she said, "she read some where that using power hedgers caused a lot of damage to plant material". She wanted only hand shearing and hedging done, this also included chain saw use as well. She was such a pleasure to have to deal with that after one year of her, I stopped biding jobs for the county altogether.
She single handedly was able to raise the cost of maintaining County facilities so much that I know of at least 3 other contractors that refused to bid any more work for the county becuse of her implementing insane changes, BTW, she did not like Round-Up as well!

This Social experiment is becoming absurd that is being implemented by our communist masters who print the money and run our courts,this civilization is quickly headed for collapse because of it.

Affirmative action where people are placed into positions not because of their qualifications for the job but rather by a social engineer who rights law with a degree they got out of a box of Cracker Jack's at a payoff or a whim of the moment!

Easy man you are not bitter at all. Just remeber, The best rise to the top no matter what. If the person or company that was hired for that job and they do a good job they will keep it. If they are doing a horrible job they will be replaced or let go. No matter who hires them.....sorry got of track from this post.....on track..... I did when I started out when there were a lot to choose from or bid on but like you stated people are making those cuts look like poop.

Yeah, usually i could care less too, lawns arn't what we focus much resources on ever, but when things tighten down, commercial jobs dry up and residential jobs are hit or miss and no bigger projects are started, you have to re-evaluate maintenance and just mowing basics of some local contracts.

I love how you get outbid by the guy with one zero turn on a contract your unsure how he'd ever be able to cut that many acres per week, when you could send enough equipment out to do it in a day... nobody cares though.
