Doing Brake booster and master cylinder on my K1500, any tips before I start

1994 K1500 Z71 with 268K miles, finally went had to drive home with the brakes to the floor and a loud hissing sound that you can hear from 50 ft away. Had my friends look at it and it's the brake booster. Advance sells it with the master cylinder for $140

Not that hard, just get all the air out and flush the system. Expect to spend a few hours.

It has no abs so it shouldn't be that hard. I was an idiot and never checked the brake fluid and realized I had a small amount and wondered why the brakes didn't stop as good. (Has rear drums) poured brake fluid and a few days later I lost brake power. The master cylinder was leaking a little and that why I lost brake fluid. I always check my truck but I somehow didn't look at that the last few weeks or months or so......

Before you blow $140the have someone who knows look at it. If the booster goes bad it will make the pedal rock hard as there will be no vacuum assist. Sound like you have a leak somewhere, could be the master but could also ne a blown line.

Oh its rock hard and the pedal wants to push back up but once it's pressed 50% it slowly sinks to the floor but the pedal wants to move back up. Brake pedal is hard to press and feels like the feeling when you press the brake with a vehicle that is off. The hissing is coming from the brake booster.

My friends wanted to see a burnout and I power braked my work truck like an idiot for a sec and roasted both tires for a long period and I guess it made the problem even worse. Like I said I should of checked the brake fluid level since I was leaking a little of the fluid at the master cylinder. The truck is mostly stock with the hard miles, it has a small lift kit, and a new paint job that's about it. I might end up using it only as a plow truck and buy a newer single cab truck for my lawns.

I did just the brake booster. It only took a few hours and patience since it was tight working under the dash. I left the master cylinder (reason why was because of time) and unbolted it from in the truck and the 2 bolts to the master cylinder. Couldn't believe how easy and cheap it was to do. For the last few years I notice the braking was getting worse but now it stops nicely with the mower and trailer! The new unit was $80
