Looks excellent to me, Zooks. Keep the water coming--about 30 minutes each day. More if its hot, dry or windy.
Start mowing soon as you can. Cut at two inches, as that causes the new grass to spread sideways. Let it dry for 24 hours before the first cut so the soil is firm enough to support the mower, let it dry for an hour afterward, (to avoid fungus in the cut leaf blades) . Then start irrigation.

Now I have to hope this tropical storm/ hurricane by Friday doesn't destroy my progress. Any suggestions to protect the still not sprouted seed?

Here it is first cut...I have a couple of areas that just dont want to fill in. I guess its coming along decent.

New update...yes you can grow grass in summer AND keep weeds out! Just gotta oversees to fill in some thin spots.
