Trouble with Scag cut!

Searched this and really found nothing. Sorry if I missed any thing on it. Scag WB with velocity has started to leave stragglers and laying grass over. Blades are fairly sharp and I guess im holding RPMs high enough. I don't know if its the dry grass or what. Never had this problem. Almost like my wheels and baffle are laying it over and its not being stood back up cut. I end up having to run over it in the opposite direction for a clean cut. Mowed with the same setup haven't changed any thing for the last 3 years. Thank you guys for any help.

When was the last time you got new blades for it? Dry grass with little to no moisture in the grass blades them selves make it hard to leave a good cut no matter what. First year I'm expiencing it myself. It's just a bad year all the way around.

We have been in a drought for most of the summer so cutting dry grass is very familiar to me. They may be different types of grasses but just about all of the grasses that I encounter are harder to cut clean when dry.

I used a Scag Wildcat (with the Velocity deck) a few weeks ago along with my Zero turns. I wanted to compare the cut quality of the Velocity plus deck to my two Zero Turns on the properties that I normally cut, not for a few minutes on a dealers lot.

I had to put a set of my freshly sharpened hi lift blades on the Scag because the ones that it came with were about wore out and very dull.( I knew that they would not handle the dry bahia very well).

To sum up, the Scag did good on most of the bahia that still had some moisiture but left alot of stragglers on the dryer grass and just not cut clean at all. My Gravely Pro Ride, which normally cuts the bahia very clean in one pass (same mower as the EverRide Warrior was) cut the dry bahia better than the Scag did but didn't cut it completely clean either.

So I figure your issue is not the mower (unless your blades are not sharp and your RPM's are down) it is just the dry grass being tougher to cut.

Dry Northern grasses are tough to cut. I've found some of the Fine Fescues to be a real PIA. We called them "wimpy" grasses when talking about cut quality issues.

At least you have the adjustable baffels on the Velocity Plus. Drop them to the lowest position. That should help.
