I'm a big Datsun / Nissan fan, so I scour Craigslist frequently. I'm sure there is a Nissan 720 dually flat bed for sale in the Greenville, SC area. Finding a box should not be to difficult, a bunch of them are built (the boxes) in AL.

That may be a good option nix ray wonder how pricey they get... ill have to go up to check it out and exact... I love that body style toyota yes apparently they forgot how to build them like that Oh and sehitchman I wanna know what diesel motor is in your nissan i have an old datsun/nissan hardbody pick u that needs a motor that may be what i end up doing!

Not trying to rain on a parade, but you're not going to get 18-20 mpg loaded. IIRC most of those Toyota Uhauls have the V6 and very low gears. I used to drive a 4Runner with that 3.0 V6 and I was lucky to get 14 mpg. So you might get 13 loaded (like your Tundra) but unlike the Tundra you won't have much power either. A 4 cylinder pickup might get 18-20 towing a small, light trailer but even that might be wishful thinking.

I've seen the Fseries trucks go as high as 6k. The Eseries go around 4500 haven't seen the Yotas for quite awhile cause they've gone to either the Cab overs or the Fseries etc

From what I've seen, a gas truck is a gas truck. They might get 18-20 empty. But pulling a loaded trailer a 6 cylinder Ranger was about 14mpg, same trailer with a GMC 1500 5.0 liter gets about 13. The 2500 Chevy with 5.7 averages 12mpg. Statistically a dead heat in my eyes. Ranger wore out tires faster eating any perceived savings anyway.

I little diesel Yota, or Isuzu, or Nissan would be interesting. Keep the gas ones.

Yes you are correct. The Toyota 1 tons with a 3.0 V6 you'd be doing good to get 16-18 empty.

My 85 4x4 with 22r got 24-25 back when the speed limit was 55 and the truck was new.

Any of my Toyota's pulling my 6x12 enclosed 11-12 mpg.

The 22RE One Tons would be the one to get. But still.barely 120 HP with an RV cam.

My 22r with carb overhaul less restrictive exhaust mild head work would be doing good to get 110-115 HP.

I hear that then LC Engineering 22r engines out of AZ get better than stock mpg but quality control has been iffy...?

Pending a compression and leak down.test on my tired stock 22r I will most likely go with a local engine rebuilder.

The valve seals on my current stock engine are toast. Few years back I had the head gasket replaced and the shop should of known to recommend a new head or send it out for machine work.

Or you could look into a Mercedes 300d for a diesel transplant. Lots of info available in a click or two. I've considered it, still toying with the idea. Wish I could just buy a Hilux. Real free here anymore huh?

This last winter I looked into that and I had several people say it's a real tinker fest and be prepared to spend gobs of time chasing down.this.and that. So I just bought a used 95 T100 3.4 for $4400.

The ultimate swap is a 3.4 V6 like my T100 has or that engine came in some of the older Tacomas.

I pretty well decided to stay 22R unless there is a plug and play option swap that is not a fiddle factor chase fest.
