I've always had great luck with every Kawi I've owned, and that's been and is, quite a few of them in my lifetime. I grew up loving Kohlers, but the last two Kohlers I had were P'sOS. Smoked like chimney's, backfired liked a banshee etc. I do like the hydraulic lifters in Kohlers, but that's it.

Truth be told, if at all possible, the next engine I buy will be a Vanguard depending on whether or not it is available in the next machine I buy, and that fact alone may be the deciding factor on what brand of machine I buy.

......or Ferris, though Gravely still is right at the top because of all the other features, and I do still like the Kawi's they come with.

Kawasaki is not what they used to be. This is why Toro and Exmark got away from them

I have always had great luck with Kawi and bad luck with Kohler. When Kohler first came out with hydro lifters I lost a few engines due to the lifter bleed down problems of the time. I have been assured that Kohler has since fixed the issue and Im seriously considering the Kohler EFI on my next machine.

Ill add more fuel to this fire, my Kohler on my 60" TT at 1200 hours is ticking away badly and now smokes heavily at start up, it was a brickman unit for 2 years............

I had a 22hp kaw on a tt years back. I replaced it once at around 3000 hours. It was my first machine, I was young and didn't take great care of it. Since then, I've had a 27hp kohler go bad. A 29hp kohler go bad and replaced it once and had to short block it too. Bought another new tt and it's a great mower but I just don't like the feeling I get from the mower regarding the engine. It's a 31hp Efi liquid cooled. It's already lost a coil pack at 150 hours. I'm leaning towards Kawasaki or the gas guzzling vanguard. Just my experiences and opinion.
