It's difficult. I think it's just part of the game for the most part. Did a couple of unsuccessful mowing and install bids this year. Last mowing bid I did was a 3/4 acre. She was coming off as cheap after I bent over backwards to get out there for the estimate right away. Told her $45, and she couldn't believe it was so high. The last guy she had cutting the lawn for $25 got deported. Now she thinks that's what it should cost. She caught me on the wrong day, I was out working, it started raining, just bad luck, I shouldn't have driven out there without giving her a rough number.

I've been using findlotsize lately. I give them a rough price out the gate, and that's how I get rid of the cheapos right away. If I think the lawn is $35, I'll say $35-40. If it's a $60 lawn, I'll say $60-75. That way, if there are no surprises, I can get what I originally wanted for it, if there are, (steep hills, more grass than I realized) they're already expecting it could be on that higher side.

Some may disagree with me, but this method has really worked in my favor. To each their own though, were all different businesses, salesmen, operators, with different costs, markets, and strategies. Just find what works for you.

If it's someone totally out of the blue calling... give them the spill about your company and also let them you something like "our services start out at $XX, and that includes..... based on a XXX sized lot..." something like that.

If they are serious and don't balk at your starting price (assuming it's not low), they may be worth going after.

I have had people that I thought were going to be cheap and wound up making good money on top of the weekly mowing off of them.

I am at the point in my business where I put up with NO one that acts cheap on me. Too much good business as it is to put up with that crap.
