I don't know what look really. Probably random. That way it doesn't drive me crazy if something changes and I lose a pattern. It's just a row of trees by the road. Don't need a privacy screen as it's protected land across the road and nothing will build there.

Holy crap those hybrid poplars grow fast!!! I was looking them up and came across this page:

Based on his reading, they must be pretty cheap to plant. Says he won't ship them after June 30th though. they don't take well planted in summer I take it?

Would you plant your "permanent" trees at say 20' intervals, and stick these in between them, and just cut them down at a later point?

Yes, I would use them as a temporary fill until your more desired trees fill in. Just an option as you will have to cut them down in 15-20 years, but definitively helps create the look you are going for.

Just have to use them accordingly where they won't crowd or push your other trees around.
