When bidding on irrigation systems you can bid either way, either parts & materials or a per zone price. You need to figure out your costs per zone and make sure you include a clock and backflow preventer plus a gate valve into the ultimate cost per zone. Every one around where I work charges per zone and the average is $700 - $850 per zone with the price dependant on how many zones you are doing.

If one starts throwing numbers out of the air before knowing what the well will do, they are asking for failure. I've installed systems that only had a 4 gpm charge, it required a cistern and a very sophisticated clock, so the well is the main deal before "price per zone" can even be considered.
