The company I work does 100% commercial. My crew is responsible for 6-7 properties per week...sometimes more if another crew gets backed up. I much prefer commercial/HOA. You don't have to cut everything every week, you don't have to trim everything every week, you don't have to load and unload as much, less travel time...

Sure, the work may be harder. Typically more hills, cars, and people. But more skill level also More rewarding for me at the end of the day.

Plus there's no way you can argue that resi's are better in the winter unless you don't want to make money. Especially major retail stores and commerce parks. They want black pavement and are willing to pay for it.

Just depends on your personal preference and your area. Here north of Pittsburgh...so much money to be made with commercials and HOA it's not even funny. Many are willing to pay for good work and will overlook the lowest bid...not all the time....but enough that money is to be made here.

I personally like the commercial because you just show up and do what needs to be done and get gone. Plus during the winterI make one visit per month and still get paid the same amount.
I guess it depends on what is best for you

Love Commercial

The contract should state what is 'extra.' Sprinkler repairs, irrigation, or you can give a proposal for additional work like, tree thinning, flower plantings, or any plantings, bark installs. I am low for my area and I'm $45 hr for the extras. A few commercials add $$ to your budget. Need to look more pro also. Decent trailer & equipment, nice work-shirts, safety vest, etc.

In the original comment when the poster said the heat just about killed him, I have a feeling that he meant the heat killed him because the lawns did not grow as much and he didnt get paid, whereas with larger commercial places he would have been paid anyway.

That is the case for me at least.. I have been saved the last two months because of my commercial places paying when I cannot mow the residential..

I may be lucky, but I am the opposite as most of the people who have commented, each month I spend about 40% of my time at my commercial places and 60% of my time at residentials, but when it is time for the money to come in, 65% of the money i profit and gross each month is from commercials.. So commercial is much more profitable for me
