Hey guys, I have been getting catalogs from this place and it seems that their prices are really competitive compared to aquascape. Has anyone dealt with this company? How was the service / quality?

A little about me, I have installed several Aquascape ponds and pondless waterfalls in the past, mostly my work is hard-scape and plantings.

I am very interested in rainwater harvesting and I want to install a cistern with aqua-blox (or something similar) at my home. I want to have a medium sized pond drop into the cistern. Water here is very expensive and it seems silly to not take advantage of the rain.

Also any thoughts on cistern size?

A few questions (naturally)-

Define medium sized pond (Gallons?)

What is the total area (sq/ft) of landscape to be irrigated?

What is your average annual rainfall?

What is the residence's total roof area?

Irrigation to be for vegetable garden, trees, planting beds, no lawn maybe 1000 square feet total
31 inches per year
600 square feet of roof area, this calculated at 7400 gals per year

medium sized pond 2000 gallons or so

I was thinking around 1000 to 2000 gallons for the cistern

I would go with the 2000 gallon cistern (the more you can store, the less you have to buy).

Look into what Atlantic or EasyPro has to offer. I know that they both have Rain Harvesting Kits available. Saves having to buy material piecemeal.

How did you arrive at 7400 gallons per year. I came up with 11,500 gallons per year. 31" = 2.58' x 600' = 1548 cu/ft x 7.48 gallons = 11,579 gallons.

I cheated and used a "calculator" on line instead of doing the volume conversion... So much for letting someone else do the math for me, I should know better.

Thanks for the help, so does Atlantic make a good product? That was the system that was advertised in the Ohio Pond supplier.

Atlantic is a reputable company as is , of course, others. No quality control shortcuts here.

I use them occasionally. Good service, but I get better prices elswhere

Pso is a fine company here in ohio ..easy pro and atlantic good as well. For rain harvesting systems though i would go w complete aquatics in columbus oh.. they do alot of rain harvesting systems and they are very hands on in helping you.

Thanks, I will look them up. I have been calling around to suppliers and everything here is Aquascape, since we are so close to Chicago the market is saturated. They have a good product, but it would be nice to find some competitive options.
