Questions answered about 52" Scag Cheetah... It's a heck of a mower!!!!

Well I went ahead and purchased the 52" Scag Cheetah. Pros: don't have to worry about power!!!! The 26 hp Kawasaki is plenty!! It will cut anything! Has a nice "finish" cut in one pass. One guy on another thread I posted a week ago said it was a "joke" of a mower. Well I'm here to tell you, it's no joke. It's plenty fast!! Cons: that same guy was right a bout scalping issues. The deck is in fact to close to the drive wheels. Any bump 3 inches deep get ready it's going to cut the dirt! Talked to rep an sales guys they all said "the only thing to do is change your approach to each yard. It's not like using your cub cadet 48 that was way underpowered.". If anyone has any ideas about fixing this issue feel free to let me know. All in all... It's worth every dime!!!!

That guy is a jerkoff, drill some holes, fab up some brackets and throw some anti scalps on. I would never settle for "change your approach", what a clown.

A striping roller will solve your problem better than antiscalps, especially if it is full length.

To be honest I do not own this particular mower. But I had 2 mowers that had the very same problem you are experiencing. Put antiscalps on one and a full length roller on the other. Either one will do the job but the roller does not tear up the turf and protects from scalping in the center of the deck when going over berms, etc. Also, antiscalps at the corners sometimes catch on things.

you do know you can float the deck and are supposed to when you drive into a small dip, go over an object you don't want to cut or if you have a bump in the yard which 99% of lawns do, i have yet to cut a perfect lawn, that had no dips, or bumps where i didn't have to float the deck. it's part of mowing. could be why i say get a 72" deck to anyone who has larger properties. I actually know how to cut grass with anything and not scalp it no matter what brand machine i'm on!

I totally agree its hard to do on my standers xs but that is what the deck lift is for. Take the time to know where the bumps are and float the deck over them

My right foot never leaves the deck lift when mowing.
