Echo "t" (torque) models

Just picked one of these up.
What exactly is the difference between them and non-torque ones?

To me it seems like they are geared to bust through tough stuff. Nice for brush hogging but horrible for fine triming. When you make a mistake and go too low they up their power and totally make a huge gouge scalp, it feels as if they actually get pulled down into the turf.
Instead of the non-torque which lose power and do not do much damage.

It is my understanding they are the same trimmer with the addion of a reduction gear which decreases the rotation speed of the head, thereby increasing the torque.

The reason they have two models was somehow some people figured that they couldn't use the high torque gearcases. We use trimmers for edging all the time and as a matter of info I am taking the high torque gear heads off the echo scraps and installing them on shinduawa to make them easier to use in trimming application. I think the problem is something else besides that gear head.

I've got two of these models and won't buy any other trimmer. Like Ed, I use them to edge and they work great.

Also of note with Ed, is that most of the Shindaiwa H4 models are supposedly going to start coming with the Echo high torque gear box, so don't buy one if you don't want it to wrap and keep going.. High torque engine + high torque gear box??!?!?!?!?! = ???????????????? What electric fence line?

I don't understand.....I got three 4mix units from shinduawa that our guys hate so I was going to put the high torque gear heads on them as my echo units wear out. Hopefully that will help the low torque engine at low rpm be more useable.

A Shindaiwa H4 (or old C4) is a higher torque producing engine, not sure where you are getting the "low torque" information?

At very low rpm that engine stumbles. It is right at the rpm where you might want to edge a very rocky area and not throw stuff and this unit just has a dead spot. I got 3 of em and and all do the same.
