Wouldn't any square base fixture work for the peaked caps?

We have put light on pillars before and we used circle lights so just cut a groove right where the rim of the base would be.

Im trying to think about step 1 before getting to step 2 here, so just food for thought.

In order to chase your wire, it would be very difficult to drill from the bottom up and hit that peak dead center with a rotary hammer drill or even a hole saw. I might be wrong here, but you were likely going to lose the peaks tip in any process of getting wire to it. With that said, I lean towards a light grind on the peak to flatten it (1/2 inch) so that you can get your bit to bite on a flat surface (very difficult on that peak unless its ground flat a bit).

Here is where I would offer an alternative and it might not be one of interest, but just putting it out there. You could actually go baseless on the fixture and use the fixtures male threads to go into a short brass/copper female adapter that then has a copper or brass 1/4 or 1/2 inch male pipe that feeds all the way through the cap and then could be secured with some type of grommet or lock nut at the bottom of the cap. Not the best explanation in the world, but hopefully enough for visualization.

Jim, my first inclination would be to just grind the tops smooth as was suggested or buy an extra deep base cap that would cover the tip (perhaps that is what you have already been looking for.) Tape off the area about 3/8" of an inch smaller than needed on each side for the size of the cap. Grind it down and don't go past the tape. You'll be good to go then and just about any base cap will work at that point. Should only take 20-30 min to tape off and grind down the 4.
