Wright Stander or ZTR

hello i need some help here...i currently have 2 lesco hydro walk behinds...one is a 48 and the other is a 52 both with velkes.

we are very indecisive in what to get next

a 61 inch stander or a 52, 61 inch ztr....i have used both in a previous company and each have benefits that i need...the collection system on a ztr for fall and spring cleanups....but how compact the stander is....ughh i dont know which to get.

my first thought is sell the 52 lesco, use that money for a down payment on a 52 or 61 ZTR with collection system, and than sell or trade the 48 Lesco for a 48 stander...so i can have cake and eat it too....but that all is a long shot.

but if i keep my 48 lesco....i would have to choose either a stander or ztr.

thoughts????

If you plan to do alot of collecting than a ZTR with collection system is probably the route to go. It will hold far more than a side bag.

For everything else I would go Stander. If you are only doing collecting in the fall I would say go Stander and dump the side bag more often. There are some companies making some collection systems for the Standers but not sure if any are comparable to a ZTR system.

I have never owned a ZTR, but have used them....I currently own a 48" Wright Stander this is my 2nd year with it and I have almost 250 hrs on it. I LOVE the stander for what I do. It has the speed, and power of a ZTR, but WAY better maneuverability. I can stick that mower in some really tight places, it takes up less room on the trailer and they are simple machines. I have some issues with my lower back, so for me standing as opposed to sitting helps that. I had an older Stander for a while, and the suspension platforms have really come a long way on these things. I had my new one before I bought the older one used, and I could never figure out why people would say the Stander killed their knees, until I drive the older one and I can see why. I will say, as you've pointed out, that the only real downfall of the Stander is the lack of collection system. We do mostly small-mid size residentials, so to the the maneuverability aspect of the Stander far outweighs the ability to put a collection system on a ZTR and make a big mower even bigger. In your case, the bagging would be the same as with your Lesco mowers you have now. They do make a leaf extender for the Stander which helps a lot in the fall. Again, thats where a collection system would shine. But for us, on our properties, we are only emptying the Stander bag once or twice MAYBE 3 times even when the grass is growing like crazy. Yes it takes a little more time, but we more than make it up because of where we can get the mower and dont have as much trim work.
