Favorite pump for 14 gpm @ 50 psi, with 5' suction lift?
I am looking at various pumps (shallow well jet, convertible jet, end-suction centrifugal and sprinkler pumps) to determine the most appropriate pump. From my research I have found that convertible jet pumps provide more pressure (50-60 psi) than standard shallow jet pumps. So called "sprinkler pumps" offer more flow but less pressure, so the higher flow is ideal with 1-1/4 and 1-1/2" lines. End-suction centrifugal pumps - I cannot seem to find an application for as the pressure and flow are not great unless you go with a higher HP.
So far, I am favoring these so I may use 1" pipe and stay within 14 gpm per zone (5'/sec.)... Myers HJ75S-K shallow well convertible jet (12.5 gpm @ 50 psi) Goulds J7S shallow well jet (12.5 gpm @ 50 psi) Pompco MJ-100 convertible jet (14 gpm @ 50 psi) Pompco PJC-100 convertible jet (13.58 gpm @ 50 psi) Any others I should be considering? I have had very good luck with Goulds Jet pumps. I would go with the J10s, which will do 14gpm at something like 54psi. It won't cost much more than the 3/4hp J7s, and will let you run 1" valved zones nicely. I generally always go with a 1.25" mainline and 1" valves on a 14-18gpm system to maintain pressure. Again, it doesn't cost much more to bump up to 1.25" from 1".
