This is 16 oz of oil to be replaced every 8 hrs., which is excessive to me, or anyone else, except the company that stands behind the warranty work.
Thanks for the post. Is it my fault they didn't seat properly or is it something that just happens?

It was nothing you did, most engine valves seat with no problem, but occasionally one will not. What I've seen through the years is if an engine has not cut back on oil consumption after 50 hrs. it more than likely will not. I will say that it is has been seen where changing brands of oil, and using a straight weight (as you already are), has slowed consumption. If it is a ring problem as I suspect, yours should be seated by this time, for the fact; running an engine in the hot weather experienced this year should speed the seating process.

I checked it the other day and it had gotten to the 2nd hole or just below.

I know its not using much, but as much as I paid for this thing I want to know why it is using some. I did everything exactly to the manual when I changed oil.
When an engine is built to good tolerances with good metal and components, it may be (an can be in most instances) the engine uses virtually no oil. I changed the oil on my new FX1000V (Kawi 35 hp) at 8 hrs. and it had not used one drop of oil, it now has 16 hrs. and still has not used one drop of oil. This tells me that more than likely this will be a very good engine, one that uses very little; if hardly any oil. The record breaking temperatures we had this summer will make most all air cooled engines use a little oil when trying to help cool the internal components.

I am only trying to help you understand there can be a length of run time it takes to seat the rings on many engines, but then again, there can be engines that the rings seat immediately within the first hour of run time.
