Need expert advice on buying john deere z830A ztrak
Been doing alot of research on zero turn to replace my riding mower. I am looking at a 2008 john deere Z830A ztrac, 60inch 7 iron deck, 27hp with 1550 hours the seller wants $3900 and it is about 3 hour drive from me. It has been used privately and every thing works as it should be. Is it worth it? What to look for when I go pick it up and test drive?

Well, from my experience, a privately owned mower from 2008 shouldn't have 1500+ hours. It is quite possible though that it has a decent amount of hours left in it, just depends on whether maintenance was done at somewhat regular intervals.

1500 hours is a lot for a mower. Now is the time when pumps, and motors get tired or fail. Our Z's are 2006, are used commercially and have 1600 hours on them. Deere does have a great product just make sure you really look the machine over before you buy it.

What do I need to look for? If all is OK is the price ok or it is too much?

Find an online service manual or ask your local dealer for service points. Check the paint condition, condition of the deck/chassis. All fluids, grease points. This will let you know how well the person maintained the unit. We had a chance to buy a demo skid steer for close to 15k off of list. It only had 350 hrs, after looking the machine over I could see the life it had, and I didn't want to spend that money fixing it down the road. Price is about average but I would still see if he would go lower.
