I've often wondered if u could install an i-beam across the top of the bed sides near the back & attach an electric winch. For example: if u needed a junkyard engine/tranny brought home I could back up to it, dump the empty bed with the barn-doors open, lower the winch cable, attach to engine & winch straight up enough to clear the bed floor as u lower the dump-bed then lower the winch to set engine on floor. Reach destination & reverse directions. Make sense as a pick up/delivery service?

Buy mulch in bulk (70yard loads) and sell it on CL and with yard signs. There is quit a bit of markup in it if you buy it this way. You just need a little room to store it.

This is my truck just after I picked it up last summer. Love it, use it now instead of the pickup to pull my enclosed trailer. Tool boxes hold everything you can think of. High sides I can get 9 yds of mulch on it. But now I get calls to make local deliveries of mulch, top soil, item 4 etc. Buy direct from a quarry you can add money per yard and figure in your delivery and you can make good money with a dump. F-550 holds a lot, 4 wheel drive gets you in tight places. It makes sense to me if your in the landscaping business to have one.

I use to buy mulch that way for my own clients but I have the space for it anymore. Good idea though.

Why not throw a driver in it and hire it out ?
Charge hourly and make some money.
Local excavation companies, paving companies, hauling companies. In my area they seem to hire trucks by the day or duration of jobs. This may be a way to capitalize on that truck of yours.

Companies don't hire 6 wheelers. They want a tri-axle, at least in my area, which is why my L8000 sits until I need it for a project.

Same thing in East TN, The biggest hauling outfit here has 60-70 triaxles and a couple of 6 wheelers.

You were onto something good as I actually did some of that this past weekend. Local (small) contractor hired myself and my truck to run waste loads from a group of 8 houses he was building. I loved making that money by not ever getting out of the truck.
