Scag tiger cub

help out a new subscriber. been looking at ztr mowers and a Scag tiger cub showed up for sale. never owned a ztr, just blew the motor in my riding tractor. tell me about these, not very familiar. seller does not know year. and can not find an hour meter. it is 300 mile trip to see and pick up. stc48A-19KA. The talk is that they are a killer machine, better quality than a toro timecutter, john deere z series?? Price?? HELP??

Exact same machine I have. Best mower I have ever run hands down! For a small mower it is a tank. If the engine is strong and not leaking oil you should be fine. The velocity deck is fantastic, cuts well with minimal scalping. I use the foot pedal in high spots and have no trouble. If its in good shape at a good price you can't go wrong.

I have never run the JD or the Toro. They are quaility machines and seem to be well like by most everyone that owns them. Can only speak to what how happy I am with the SCAG.

Your market down there is probably a lot cheaper than up here in AK. I would think somewhere between 2 and 3K would be reasonable.

2-2500 seems reasonable to me. The way I look at it with the SCAG you can run it a long time. Put a new engine in it and run it a long time again. The rest of the machine is not going to wear out or break. Grease everday, keep up with the oil changes and filters and you should be fine.

I'm not too sure the 04 48" deck is a V+ deck. It might be the Advantage deck.

it is down to 2 machines, the 04 Tiger Cub, hours unknown for $2200, or a 2011 John Deere Z445 with 8 hours on it yes 8 hours for $3500

Finally found an 08 Z445 online. Looks identical to my mid-grage Husky. Pretty sure it is the same frame and deck, probably same manufacturer different paint. It is a good mower but nowhere near the quality of the SCAG. Hands down the SCAG for me, better machine and built to last. If you had to put in a new engine you would be in the same ball park for price as the JD.

Not sure the year they went to the Velocity deck and have not used one with the Advantage deck. Pretty sure mine is an 06.
