The flip caps, before the recall, were indeed a pain in the buttsky. You could twist and turn and it looked like the cap was seated correctly, and before you know it, fuel was dripping out when the handheld was tipped. I replaced mine through the recall and haven't had a problem since.

stihl cap

Told the stihl guys at the gie expos in Louisville two years ago about the caps and said that it can be dangerous. They said never had a problem or any complaints. Then the next year a recall. Just like last year told the scag guys about the pro v that it was a bad design for hills and a death trap. They said didn't see how. Now I hear they are quit making them

Same here.
I like the flip top caps in the new version only. I had the old POS version on my BR600M replaced and have never had any issues with it, but I did wwith the original one. My FS90 came with the newer version already on it. Stick 'em in the hole, quarter turn, flip handle down, done.

The replacement flip caps work better than the old. The original were defective, they broke and leaked, had to be recalled. If you are solo, have plenty of time, are not worried about the employees messing up, you may be fine with the flips. I have had to actually train guys on how to use a flippin' gas cap. Imagine spending time training people on how to put on a gas cap! Ridiculous.

The new/old screw caps are a welcome relief. Simple, easy, foolproof.

The original flip caps were fine, but only for a short time after you bought them. They then got progressively worse with use (a plastic part that made them stick, swelled when exposed to the ethanol in gas).

Mine got so bad, the dealer had to use pliers to remove one of the recalled caps when he was replacing it.

The new ones are great. I'm glad I don't have the screw on caps.

My original old version never worked right, right from the get go, but I agree with you on preferring the new flip cap to the screw caps. I've had several of the screw on type leak after the vent seal got damaged from all the ethanol. I just had to replace one last week because it leaked.

still not sure why people are having trouble.

I've had my flip cap trimmer for almost 2 years now and I ignored the recall because I have NEVER had a single problem with them.

guess I'm just lucky. but in the end it's just a gas cap. it's not gonna keep me from buying stihl handhelds.

I JUST installed my replacement cap a week or two ago. I got it from my dealer last season when they called to tell me a replacement was there for me to pick up, but never installed it. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Well, after 2 and a half seasons it "broke". I ran out of gas and went to remove the cap and the flippy thingie sort of turned, but didn't DO anything. I got it off eventually and refueled with the hopes I could get it back off again when I got home so I could put the new cap on.

So far I haven't noticed anything "easier" about the replacement flip cap.

I like them better than a screw cap, although I can see how it would be frustrating to have employees who apparently can't think for themselves fumbling with them.

It ain't rocket science though - it's a gas cap.

If you can't securely close one in the few seconds it should take, I question the judgement of the state to allow you to operate a motor vehicle to drive from job to job on a daily basis.

i guess besides just liking the flip design in general, another reason i like it is because i tend to over tighten screw on things.

with the flip cap you can't over or under tighten it. so the few times my weak old dad (lol) helps me a season he can get it undone without me having to do it for him.

i seem to over tighten just about anything that screws on, from nuts and bolts to gas caps and 2 liter pop bottles. someone is always yelling at me because they can't unscrew this or that. or i'm always cracking or breaking something because i over tightened a bolt.

i like the gas cap on the exmark vantage i had as a loaner over a month ago. it is made just like vehicles. once it's tight it does that click thing.
