Exactly. A good used commercial WB will last longer then a brand new piece of junk.

Lease one for a year. That way you can get the equipment you need, and not have to worry about breakdowns. Also, you won't have to deal with selling the mower when you stop mowing.

I think you are asking a valid question but you certainly raise the curiosity of the group when you introduce the topic with the title that you used.
Many will ask, why is a guy who is making lots of money only want to mow for a year? It has nothing to do with your question however you opened the door to the line of questioning by that title. If you would have said What Mower to go with? you certainly wouldn't have had alot of scrutiny. Now us in the crowd have many questions? How much experience do you have in the business? Do you pay taxes? How big are your accounts, (acres, sq ft.)? Why are you only mowing for a year? Do these questions have anything to do with your question about mowers? Some do but I am now curious about the other questions. Please don't take this as a smart a$$ response because if I knew more about your business I could give you a better answer to your original question. You are supplying your own equipment and will be working as a subcontractor is what I assume. If thats the case and you are being paid as such then you will be filing taxes and will be able to write off a decent mower. Time should be equal to money so I would definately get as big and fast of a machine that can be used on your properties. Commercial equipment from major manufacturers are not cheap however they also have advantages. Lower breakdowns, faster and higher quality cuts are 2 major reasons to go with a good machine. Even if you are looking to spend a grand, find a used Toro or Scag wb instead of a 22 wb. Remember that after the year of use you still have good residual value and may even be able to sell it for what you paid for it if you do things right. Now if time is not an object and you can do it with the 22 then you might as well stick with the 22. You can buy ten random 22" mowers for a grand so even if you blow up one or two you are still dollars ahead since you are only in it for a year. Good Luck.

I don't believe the Toro 30" mower is what you're looking for. There have been quite a few users of the mower that complain about the lack of horsepower to get the job done. They are supposed to be releasing a new commercial version next year. Hopefully it will have something closer to a 10 HP engine as opposed to the 6 HP Briggs engine it has now.
A used 32" or 36" commercial mower would be a much better choice. The World Lawn mowers are Chinese and get no support from me. Not now, not ever. |
