BBB just sales pitched me....

Wow what a polished 15 minute sales call:

-We have researched YOUR business and would like to offer you the privilege.

-You can use our logo

-We don't just let any business in to BBB

-We will link to your website

All for the low low price of 450.00 a year! But make sure you decide right now because your company could get bad feedback today and we would not extend BBB accreditation to you! She even said in 2-3 days she would send my name back to the processing department! Wow!

I never buy with scare tactics.....Lets hear your BBB stories! (I am sure there is a thread on this but wanted to hear some recent stories for our new members who may be contacted)

Phone call:
Mr. Redden, our records here indicate at the BBB that several potential consumers have searched your name and because you are not a member, we cannot share with them information regarding your business.
Me: what do I need to do to be accredited?
BBB: the fee is 450 and then they mentioned the sales pitch.
Me: I'm sorry but in really not interested.
BBB: According to our records you recently received a complaint regarding customer service, if you become a member we can help resolve that issue and you will be on your way to becoming a a+ member.
Me: Are you seriously offering to remove a complaint in exchange for 450...
BBB: of course not, but with that small fee, you will not be as likely to have published bad ratings.
Me: think about what you just said and tell me why I would want to do business with a company that is on the verge of blackmail and bribery.
BBB: sir....

they call me like 2 or 3 times a year. I never answer and never respond to there voicemails. I talked to them once and told them I wasn't interested and if I was I'd let them know. I think they are a joke.

Yeah, a couple of times a year here too. They usually start the pitch with something like "this is not about a complaint". Like I care. CLICK!

I dropped tht crap a few years ago. I would rather donate $450 to a charity before I give them anymore money.

We are members of BBB. I've seen the ROI. We constantly get calls from people who see us on their website. They also recommend your company if a customer from your area calls in looking for a recommendation. Also if you pay timely on renewal they give 10% off. So we end up paying $405

personally I get excellent results advertising in the newspaper like I do. and as far as handling complaints. I prefer anyone with a complaint take it up with me directly. so I'm not gonna pay the BBB just to do a little advertising and handle complaints for me.

I can handle my complaints just fine and I don't need there A+ grade to get business.

I allege, that if you join and buy a really big ad with them, then you can be a rip off company and they will protect you. I've allegedly seen it where I am.

I will not become a member. They don't protect us when we have problems with HOA's.

Join your landscape association instead.
