Ramp Truck getting hot

We have a 95 chevy tiltmaster truck that is heating up when going down the highway after 2 or 3 miles. In sit and go traffic the temp stays in the center of the operating range but on the highway its a totally different story. I installed a new thermostat and cleaned the radiator. Also replaced the thermo coil fan with a straight fan that runs constantly. Water pump appears to be doing its job when i switched the thermostat I ran the truck with the cap off the radiator and the circulation appeared fine. Any ideas ?

Did you use a flex fan? If not maybe one would help. I replaced stock fan and clutch for flex fan on a plow truck and it cooled like a champ. Did you use a spacer to keep the fan as close to the radiator as the stock fan was. I think removing a clutch and not using the correct spacer might put the fan farther back, possibly out of the shroud even. Space it so it is back within the shroud's opening if needed. Just some ideas....there are surely other possibilities.

Yes on both a flex fan and the spacer but if that was the case it would be cooler driving and heat up while sitting

Did you have the radiator rodded out ?

I've seen many radiator caps not hold pressure and cause overheating, Also older lower radiator hoses suck closed under higher rpm's restricting water flow....

Ditto RestroRob....probably a clogged radiator...
Had basically the same symptoms on my dads 47 mercury street rod..
The radiator looked and was sold as new...80% clogged...
We tried everything...shrouds...ducted electric fans ..removed thermostat...
Still overheated within a few miles on the interstate...
Rodded out radiator....dependable street rod...
Ya gotta have your toys....

Thinking the same thing. You replaced the t-stat, did you flush out the system? How many miles? What was the coolant condition? High rpms and overheating indicate a flow issue

Replaced the thermostat and top hose with a spring insert. I was also thinking the radiator might be clogged. The truck has 95 k on it
