Getting rid of material from pond digging?
would it work to simply grade out the excavation material around the area in which you dug the pond while your digging it? Basically making the pond deeper without having to dig deeper.

Yup, that's how we build manure lagoons.

Is finding someone who could use the fill an option?

If the material is real coarse( like sandy) the pond may leak. Otherwise yes unless it is really wet then it is really hard to get to stay in one spot. You could dig a hole and dump the wet stuff in and then take the good soil and build teh pond up.

Use it to berm the perimeter or build a berm on one side with a crick/waterfall feature.

Building up the bank is how it's routinely done around here. When I did mine I brought in topsoil to cover. The clay we have below 6" depth sprouts weeds like gangbusters but won't grow grass worth a hoot.
