Dad farms. I will someday if I can find any to rent. In 10 or so years he will rent me all his. Would like to have some of mine before then. You have to buy a combine to or tractor to get a gold key tour. We were suppose to get one on the 8235 we bought this spring, but there was a mix up some where. We were suppose to eat at the headquarters, but it was some other joint down town. They have a deal with them and you get a choice. At the tractor plant with the gold key tour they give you lunch at thier own resturant in the building. Anyone get a tour, but you have to ride on a wagon and get less perks.

I am seeing this 2 ways:
1) There is going to be some cross-breeding of technologies here, and you'll have a Wright Stander with a JD 7-Iron deck, which would be outstanding because Wright can't make a good deck to save their asses, which we all know is the one downfall of that mower.
2) JD is going to swallow up Wright in the next couple of years, and Wright (which I would consider a smaller company who takes really good care of their customers) will fall victim to corporate america and rather than stay on the cutting edge of design and consumer demand, will let it slide off and be surpassed by other brands in the market. Wright makes stand on mowers. thats ALL they do (for the most part), and thats what they are GOOD at, and thats what nearly all of their efforts in design and research are focused on. JD does a little bit of everything, and why should they crank a ton of resources into a $8,000 stand-on mower when they can sell a combine to a farmer for $400,000 (I looked it up thats what they cost new haha)??

I'm interested to see how this one pans out....
I found this very helpful but is not the cutting deck technology the whole purpose of a mower?

that is what i am getting at, i have used both sides of the fence, wright for many years and recently toro. the toro gets tons of better traction, being behind the center of pivot. i do proclaim myself an extreme hill master too

SO, again, is it really all that important? i dont think so and appreciate the opposite now that i am used to it, and using both like i said

yeah i really have no complaints with our grandstands...i demoed a wright and felt they were very comparable with hillside stability...the main advantage the wright had over the toro was the length...that was for the large frame mowers...as far as the smaller frames such as the 36" i felt wright had the edge...once again with the length, but it also lays better stripes...it definitely had better hillside stability...i am comparing it to our 36" vantage...i think the vantage is a very smooth machine but it for some reason doesn't lay a crisp stripe right in between the stripes, seems like it's the way the drive tires are set up possibly?

the new gravely does look very promising, i wouldn't mind demoing one...

BTW- you do realize that for that $400K you get to watch them build it, and then be the very first one to turn the key don't you?
For the $10,000 the mower will prob cost I would want to be the first one to turn the key too!!

I think the only reason you are seeing the other brands infiltrate previous Wright dominated markets is price. Scag has been all but giving away their standers to get their foot in the door. I havent paid as much attention to the Toro/Exmark pricing. I know Toro had some specials though.

Last year I could have gotten a 2010 lest over vantage for 6400. They had 4 left in late summer when in inquired about them. You can get deals if dealers buy things right or if they have the ability to. Now if you jump to the 60" and efi its around 10k. Most standers can be bought for less than 8k. Probably better with a wad of cash in your hands.

I hope that Wright is merely building some mowers for JD, not selling out to them. I dont like seeing the small guy swallowed up buy the giants.
