Exhaust & Hydro - HRC2162HXA

I have two different HRC2162HXA mowers with problems:

1st mower - Exhaust - Starting this week, the mower runs well with clean exhaust, but only after shutting down the mower, the muffler smokes for several minutes and has a burning oil smell. Again, when running at full throttle it doesn't smoke or have an oil burning smell, but only a minute or two after shutting it down it starts smoking. Any ideas?

2nd mower - Hydro Transmission - The transmission speed is not running as fast as it use to, but it runs smooth and steady, just slower. I've checked the cable and it's in proper alignment. I'm thinking adding some fluid and bleeding it for possible air. Your thoughts?

I look forward to the future of this site, thanks!

Make sure the reservoir is full on the 2nd mower. It's in the plastic cover on the back of the mower where the grass catcher goes.
As far as the first mower, it might just be using a little more oil. How many hours? Have u checked oil level? If u have to add occasionally, it's just using more oil. It's probably still smoking the same at operation speed, but you don't notice is. Is the exhaust oily looking at all?

Yes, I checked transmission fluid level and it was full. I did go ahead and adjusted the cable a little past the recommended visual guides in the transmission box and it now speeds along. I now also suspect that the orange plastic cam on the speed lever, has ever so slightly worn down from the constant engaging/disengaging cable tension on the plastic cam, by so, was no longer pulling that last bit of cable.

As for the oil, it's has never burned oil and its at the proper lever. For the time being, I've rotated it into backup spare (limited use) and will be checking the oil level every time the rope gets pulled. When the season slows down, I'll break it down and put a new head and valve gasket/seals on it. I'll probably also go ahead and put new rings on it. I doubt the rings are needed, but if I'm that far into the engine, it's only $25 to put new rings on.
