Don't feel to bad...a few years ago I had a Ztr come in with a new battery that wouldn't start.. I was working outside in direct sunlight and didn't notice the negative symbol on my fluke meter...after pouring sweat over the mower for 2 hours..I realized the battery polarity was reversed...the battery casing was marked incorrectly...the bad thing was...we sold him the battery...

the battery casings are stamped from the factory aren't they? or did you guys accidentally put stickers on backwards? something i would never ever think to do is check terminal polarity to confirm the + & - symbols are correctly marked.

we McGyver'ed the throttle linkage...hard to get full choke. return spring is so-so. probably keep plugging away on that.

Kubota's throttle lever has 2 cables on it, on a drum; one cable is for throttle. the second cable ties into the hydrostat foot pedal. hydrostat cable disconnected at the foot pedal end. hopefully figuring that out and hooking it up results in a good running mower.
