Honda Mower Blades Genuine P.O.S.
A couple years back, bought an HRX217 mower from HD...Paid 550 for it I believe, and I thought I had a mower that wouldn't have any issues. Well, I like the mower (wish it went a little faster) but the MicroCut Twin blade set are made from the crappiest steel possible. I seriously think the last gouge I got in the blade edge was from an insect antennae...Absolutely no heat-treat was done to this metal to harden it at all...The wind could put a dent in this metal. Nothing like these companies using the cheapest materials they can get their greedy hands on. They put black paint on it to make it look pretty, but under that paint is shyt metal. Made in USA huh? We should be so proud to put out such a low quality p.o.s. product. Oh, I always mow at 3.5 inches and this mower was for my yard. I don't have any rocks that large in my yard. I am tired of being $cammed by greedy companies cutting corners with their products so their upper level execs can sip from 300 dollar bottles of wine on their luxury yachts...And they think it is funny I assure you, because both my parents are rich and think people like you and me are trash--you know, the people that really work for living...They could give a shyt.

Feel better? or, MAYBE, just MAYBE there was an Engineering reason for it.... If you put 2 .187" blades on a 21" mower, imagine the size of the engine brake or BBC it would take to stop the blades in the 5 seconds required by ANSI B71.1 or the 3 seconds required by the CPSC... I would image the combined weight of the 2 blades used in the Microcut system is very close to that of a single .187" blade like the rest of the industry uses. or maybe they just decided to put cheap blades on the machine so they could afford more $300 bottles of wine to enjoy on their yachts... ![]() Q |

I remember when I pulled mine off for the first time, I thought to myself these are some cheap blades, very light and easily damaged. For whatever the reason Honda made them like that??? I like the cut and mulching they give, bagging on these mowers is less then desirable though.

I hear ya Dave!
![]() ![]() ![]() I can't figure out why they ever got away from the deep deck they used to sell, I love that mower. These micro-cuts are the biggest piece of garbage in the wet weather, blades make the cut grass into oatmeal and then it doesn't exit the deck. the have these stupid wheels where crap gets stuck inside all the time when it is wet thus blowing ratchet pins. very frustrating |

It is your choice on using the second blade. Why target micro-cut blade system, when you are in control on what is mounted?

HRX217, ... I've gotten two seasons out of a set of blades, cycling two different blade sets. They have been sharpened at least 150 times, and work just fine. They are quick-off, quick-on, so easy to make a change. A couple of passes with flap-disk, 20 seconds at the outside, and they are good to go again.
No complaints with blades on HRX217. |

Funny, I have a HRC216, which I know is in a different category, but my blades are tough. I have mulched up soda cans by accident before and I often run over a lot of sticks and twigs, and my blades hold up well!
