Ideal time to seed-And Irrigation
I live in St. Joseph, MO and mosiquitos start coming around when the air is around 70 degrees for 72 hours or for three consecutive days. It has to be that warm.
Mushrooms-morels have to have nights of 50 degrees or thereabouts in order to fruit. Again I think it was three consecutive days or something for the ground to get warm. These are approximates as I don't remember precisely. When is the ideal time to seed and aerate. I do not want to stress the grass if it is still too hot sometimes. We've been getting some rain. I heard we will get some more and may have another wave of heat. I read from aug 15th to sept 15th is the time to do them both. But it varies every year. So how do you know-instinctually. I dethatched my lawn. I think it will be alright. I still have a long ways to go to be able to get it where I want it. But I do have areas where fescue has built up strong turf. I haven't seeded at the right times in the past though-normally spring. Any help much appreciated. Also I read watering once per week-one inch will help turf become more drought resistant. But it didn't seem enough as my grass died in parts. That thinner grass-the rye burnt up. I do see the mall's irrigation systems here in town turning on alot. What is the ideal times of the day to water?? You don't want the roots wet at night bc of diseases and what not. Morning is good. But how often? |
