Turf Tiger Hydro oil-Mobile 1 20w-50 V-twin?

Anyone running this V-twin oil in the Hydro? Can't find the regular Mobile 1 in 20w-50.

You should double check your manual. Mobil 1 isn't, and hasn't been for a long time, available in a 20w50. It is available in a 15w50 and some mowers use that in the hydros.

been told not to use synthetic in Scag's hydro system. Not sure why.

Could be because of the added expense. Scag hydraulic systems are by design to run with in or under the maximum brake down temperature of conventional oil by large reservoirs and cooling fans. As heat being the enemy of the system, why not keep it cooler by 15-20 degrees with synthetic oil?

From Scag:
"Occasionally customers inquire about switching the hydro oil in their new Scag to synthetic. While there is nothing in the drive system that could be damaged from its use, and as outlined above, it is certainly not necessary. We do suggest that they wait until after the initial break-in period before making the switch if desired."

I run Castrol 20w50 but am thinking of switching over to 10w30 because I have heard of guys doing it with success.

It's not designed for automotive use. It was the original Mobil 1 I was talking about. You have to be especially careful about the additives that are put into engine oil. Too much of the wrong additive can do damage.

My statement was more aimed at the fact that I don't think his manual specs Mobil 1 V-Twin 20w50 oil.

Just use the exmark hydro oil. Easy and high quality!! No silly numbers and variations to get confused. The highest quality is the ventrac hydro oil but it's quite pricey and only comes in 5 gal. buckets.

Scags can run synthetic with no problems. I use nothing but in this heat. Its a little added protection especially if you don't have coolers. Any oil rated for motorcycle use is usually done so to be compatible with wet clutches and extreme rpm. Two condition you don't find on mowers.
