Raised patio build above natural stone wall?

I am looking for some advise, I have a customer who wants a patio off the back of there house and I will need to build a retaining wall about 30" tall on the slope to create a level surface for the patio. My problem is that at the bottom of the slope there is a natural stone, dry stacked retaining wall about 4ft in height that retains the slope. It looks to be very well built and has a nice batter to it. I am nervous I will be adding additional load to this natural stone wall from my raised patio and the current wall is not engineered for that. Does anyone have an experience with a similar situation? Will I be okay if I follow the general rule of keeping my new wall 2x the height of the lower wall behind the lower wall and treating my new wall separately? I hope this is not to confusing I will try and get some pictures to post, Thank you
