The only adjustment on the FB460 carb is an air bleed screw...
It is used to smooth out the idle...it adjusts the amount of air in the fuel mix at idle only...this circuit is bypassed at midrange and WOT... Posted via Mobile Device |

thanks
thanks Slapper..Does that sound like the dry black powder is rich condition? I already have it cleaned up and head back on so can't get pic. If the igniter isn't advancing the timing properly at higher rpm's..would that cause it to overload and run rich? I read that it does advance the timing and that they can be troublesome.

Igniters can have intermittent issues as they heat up. As stated it may spark but its not a quality spark under load or rpm.

thanks PS..
I guess once I get it all back together I'll buy a igniter. Them little things are pricey!..I tried a brand new Sten's (mega-fire I think) I had here just for heck of it..It didn't work. Do you know if any other 'cheaper' modules..like Noma/Atom will work?

Make sure the screw holding the igniter is tight..if it doesn't have a good ground it won't work too good..
Remove the flywheel nut to see if the key is still in the right place... Poor spark will foul the plug and soot up the head.. Posted via Mobile Device |

dry black powder is not necessarily an indicator of richness, any internal combustion engine will have some, its a byproduct of the combustion process.

Flooding or rich carb..weak spark..head gasket or valve problem. Black hard substance is burnt oil... Normal combustion deposits are tanish brown... Posted via Mobile Device |
