Around here, it all comes from reservoirs via canals. Where I live though (rural area) we have a well on the property.

If you live in the city, you have to pay for the water your home consumes. The city monitors everyone's usage by water meters, and then charge accordingly. Needless to say, a lot of people simply choose to not water their lawns here the way they use to since it's costing them more money than they feel it's worth.

Looks like the drought is about to hit my region of NC with Friday's reading of 97 and mid 90's for the next few weeks,not near as hot as those three digit #'s
