Kohler 20 oil leak
Looking at the rear of the mower, it is leaking at the close right side of the mower. pics below.
Story goes, i got this on trade, pumped some grease in the bearings, changed the air filter and went to work. a friend called me the other day asking to borrow it cause his pooped out on him. of course, i lent it to him and said there is not 1 problem. well, there wasnt. but now there is oil coming out of the back of the engine and this only happened 1 of 2 ways. #1 when i was backing it up on his trailer like i do with mine, i hit the gate sorta hard. turned around after saying "my bad" and pulled up forwards. maybe something jolted loose? #2 lets put the truth out there.. i never once checked the oil on this mower. not once. but he did and saw it was low so topped it off. after doing so, he took it to work the next morning and started mowing a yard. 3/4 the way through he noticed oil all in the grass and pulled up on the trailer and started to drip drip drip. maybe 2 drips per 5 seconds he said. so he brought it back to me last night. i put it in the garage around 9pm. loaded it on the trailer and took it to work with me today (regular 9-5 job no mowing) and was going to have the guys in the warehouse take a look. well, got out to the garage and there was a nice puddle of oil under the motor. loaded it up, took it here to work, sprayed a whole can of blaster on it to clear everything out. started and let it run for 5 min and very slowly it is starting to come down but not leak yet. here are some pics, please help. sorry for the long post but figured i would share the whole thing. ![]()

Looks like its leaking at the sump...
That engine uses permatex for the gasket between the block and the sump. Fun job.... Posted via Mobile Device |

Cost isn't that much...an oil change and a tube of Permatex Ultra Black...
Download a repair manual from Kohler and see if it is something you can do. Posted via Mobile Device |
