The type of soil around here is called Sapelo Soil. Its a sandy soil. You can read about it here: https://soilseries.sc.egov.usda.gov/.../S/SAPELO.html

People use CG as a turf there? I've heard in Jamaica I believe it's used as a turf.

Crabgrass isn't an ugly grass like goose or Bahia. It just sucks to cut. I don't think anybody plants CG. There are plenty of people that aren't willing to do anything about it when it's in their lawn.

Shoot I've got a couple places with crabgrass so thick and smooth it looks like a sod farm.

If you aren't lifting sand from the soil, you are still abrading away at the blades because of the tougher plant material's higher silica content.

Clay soils may have less of what you would call sand, but it has a higher content of finely ground minerals (from what were once stone/sand), the silt. which is still highly abrasive. Silt erosion is encountered in hydraulic turbines.
Interesting post! Thanks for that. I believe it too, it seems like Bahia, Dallis, and crabgrass, are such a pain to mow. I'll tell ya though, that velocity plus deck will roll right along in all of it, blades look like someone chopped a building down with them afterwards though.
